Jabbercon Fest

August 19th, 2001 · Comments

Here we are in Denver at the Jabber Conference Jabbercon. As soon as I got off of the plane and sat down to read the instructions I hear my name being called. Sure enough my buddy Dave Winer spotted me. (It is tough not to.) I didn’t forget my camera this time. Here are the first photos I took. The sign seems to be telling Dave where to go but he has other things on his mind.

The lighting for pictures in the Denver Airport is incredible. I should have been more rigorous about getting some more shots. Here is another of the Dave.

We were supposed to meet Jeremie Miller there in the atrium of the airport. While we were waiting, a self proclaimed “kiwi” (a person from New Zealand) walked up to us and said something like “are you blokes going to the Jabber conference?” This stopped Dave and I cold as we didn’t know we were such obvious geeks. “Uh…Yes. How did you know?”

“I don’t know,” he said. “I was just told to find you.” Turns out it was Piers Harding who is also a speaker on the agenda. Piers informed us that Jeremie was late. We decided to rent a car can get going. We had fun (probably too much at Piers’ expense) on the way in.

After making sure we could get a connection, Dave and I went to dinner. Great conversation and ok food. We then went to the pub where the rest of the Jabber group was hanging out. Dave led a great conversation on what he would like to accomplish. (I am sure he will tell you about it on scripting news.)

Doc Searls came in, we talked.Doc got going on his next extension of the Cluetrain (software as construction). I love it when these guys get going. The altitude is about 9500 ft. It doesn’t seem to bother me but both Doc and Dave are complaining.

It’s late.

That’s all for now.
